Integrated Resources Plan Working Group Wiki

The Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) Working Group provides updates on all things touching IRP modeling, policies, and procurement. California is in a post-AB 2514 mandate world so most procurement opportunities will come from IRP modeling and scenarios (including SB 100), but this working group will also cover additional procurement opportunities elsewhere, such as through AB 2868, emerging technology-related procurement, etc.

How this Working Group is making an impact:

  • Provided deep technical modeling insights to ensure California’s Reference System Portfolio in the Integrated Resource Planning process identified the need for around 11,000 MW of battery and long-duration storage to meet the state’s 2030 decarbonization goals

  • Supported the case for 3,300 MW of storage to be procured by 2023.

  • Advocated at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to expedite the approval of storage resources, which are necessary to maintain system reliability.

  • Actively collaborated closely with Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) and National Renewable Energy Labotory (NREL) in the LA100 Initiative to ensure the initiative includes and accurately represents different types of energy storage as part of LA’s 100% clean energy goals.
