CAISO Working Group Wiki

The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) manages the flow of electricity across the high-voltage, long-distance power lines for the grid serving 80 percent of California and a small part of Nevada. The CAISO Working Group covers updates on CAISO market design, products, and planning processes, including the establishment of hybrid market participation and the representation of storage marginal costs within CAISO markets.

How this Working Group is making an impact:

  • Supported the successful implementation of a new load shift resource market product, going to be implemented Fall 2020. This will create a new value stream for storage to support solar over-generation.

  • Supported the approval of new market participation pathways, interconnection & metering requirements for co-located and hybrid resources, which will be rolled out in Fall 2020 and 2021 respectively.

  • Supported the development of market bidding and resource management tools to facilitate storage participation in the market.
