Federal Energy Regulatory Commission

CESA interacts regularly with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on important energy storage policy.  While California tends to lead the nation in energy storage market access, development, and market size, FERC governs many important aspects of the energy storage market, including its role in approving the policies and operations of California’s Independent System Operator.  CESA advocates at FERC to further support the roles of energy storage in providing market services, transmission services, and more.

Key Regulatory Advocacy Topics Include:

Storage as Transmission, Energy Storage Market Access, Pay for Performance Regulation, Energy Storage Accounting, Capacity Market Designs, Frequency Response market designs, and more
