Ben Kaun currently manages the Energy Storage and Distributed Generation program at EPRI. He has over 10 years of experience in the field of energy storage, power system modeling, and advanced battery development. His responsibilities cover the evaluation of new technology, techno-economic modeling, and the integration of energy storage projects into planning and operations.  In prior roles at EPRI, Ben led the Energy Storage Integration Council (ESIC), which works collaboratively with industry participants to publish tools and guidelines to support energy storage deployments.  Ben also spearheaded development of the publicly-available Storage Value Estimation Tool (StorageVET).  He served 2 terms as board member of the Energy Storage Association from 2013-2017.  Prior to EPRI, Ben worked with multiple early stage companies to engineer and commercialize Li-ion battery technology, with focus on vehicle electrification.  Ben earned a BS in Industrial & Enterprise Systems Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MS in Management Science & Engineering from Stanford University.  Prior to joining NEC, he held roles at A123 Systems, a lithium ion battery startup, YankeeTek Ventures, an early-stage venture capital fund, and business development and materials science R&D at Saint-Gobain. Roger received his Master of Engineering degree in Materials Science from MIT, his Bachelor of Science in Ceramic Engineering from Rutgers University, and is an inventor on ten United States patents.
